If you would have asked me how I would have liked to spend Father's Day, I would have said with Jason sleeping in, then going to a really cool restaurant for brunch and then him playing a round of golf or just relaxing, topped off with a really yummy home-cooked meal. However, it was not my day and Jason said that he honestly wanted to get up and go to church and then just grill out- he wanted an easy, relaxing day with the girls. So... we last minute decided to hang out with the Bishops at their pool and grill out hamburgers and hot dogs while the kids enjoyed the water. Well, I'm sure like most couples, in our parenting world, Daddy is the fun one at the pool and Mommy is... not so much. I don't take it personally, we all have our strengths. But I feel bad, because what should have been a relaxing day for Jason started with rushing around trying to throw all of our pool stuff together and still make it to church on time, and then when we got to the pool, all the kids wanted to play with their Daddy's. So, Jason and Ben spent most of the afternoon lifting and throwing heavy toddlers around the pool- and then, they even grilled our lunch for us!
Later that evening, on top of all that, I ended up having horrible stomach pains (which ended up being a ruptured ovarian cyst) and I could barely even stand- so Jason ended up handling the girls and getting them into bed while I was incapacitated.
On a day when he could have rightfully been selfish- he was selfless. On a day that he could have been tired and complaining- he was supportive and kind. On a day that he could have been unhappy- he was smiling...all day. He was a father, in every sense of the word. And we are so, so lucky that this amazing man, who normally gets little to no credit, is in our world.
Happy Father's Day- hopefully next year will be a little "happier" for you :) Thank you, for all that you do...
Love you,
Your Girls
